{"id":12757,"date":"2016-11-15T15:49:54","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T14:49:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geoclima.com\/de\/2016-hottest-year-record\/"},"modified":"2021-01-20T16:47:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-20T15:47:28","slug":"2016-to-be-the-hottest-year-on-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.geoclima.com\/de\/2016-to-be-the-hottest-year-on-record\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 to be the hottest year on record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2015 was recorded as the hottest year but 2016 is going to surpass it.<\/p>\n<p>WMO (<a href=\"http:\/\/public.wmo.int\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Meteorological Organization<\/a>) has published the provisional statement for 2016 to inform United Nations Climate Change conference taking place in Morocco on the occasion of COP22.<\/p>\n<p>These data, updated to September, show that <strong>global temperatures in 2016 are around 1.2 \u00b0C above pre-industrial levels<\/strong>. Preliminary data for October indicate a sufficiently high level for <strong>2016 to be the hottest year on record<\/strong>. This means that 16 of the 17 hottest years on record have been this century.<\/p>\n<p>Other climate-change indicators are record breaking. Levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are still increasing; arctic sea ice levels on the contrary are very low; major heatwaves and flooding are becoming regular.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTemperatures were above the 1961-90 average over the vast majority of land areas\u201d<\/em> WMO statement reports.<em> \u201cTemperatures were above normal over most ocean areas. [\u2026]Coral mortality of up to 50% was reported in parts of the Great Barrier Reef. [\u2026]Global sea levels rose about 15 millimetres between November 2014 and February 2016 as a result of El Ni\u00f1o, well above the post-1993 trend of 3 to 3.5 mm per year\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Also greenhouse gas levels increased: <em>\u201cAnnual average global carbon dioxide concentrations in 2015 reached 400 parts per million (ppm) for the first time. Initial observations indicate new records in 2016\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In this scenario, WMO underlines the importance and urgency of <strong>putting the Paris Agreement into action<\/strong>.
