Background
Consolidated Business Systems Ltd was established in 1979 and is one of Sri Lanka’s leading export companies of a wide range of products, including tea, coconut products, fresh fruits, vegetables, dry foods, frozen foods and a range of other exotic products. The company boasts an ever-expanding international clientele and exports to over 60 destinations in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and North America.
Purposes
The main purpose of the plant was to supply chilled water for process cooling without using glycol in the water circuit, in order to prevent the glycol water from mixing with the food process. In fact, in this type of applications, process safety is considered of primary importance.
Challenges
In addition to this, the system had to meet two other needs: first of all, to ensure high levels of energy efficiency and high performance; the second challenge was to design a unit that would make the system complete and compact at the same time.
Project
To meet these requirements, our R&D department has developed a smart solution by equipping the chiller with an additional evaporator and a recirculating pump with glycol circuit. Both the evaporator and the pump can be managed with the unit control system, so it was not necessary to install an additional control system.
The designed chiller is a 588 kW GHA with two screw compressors to achieve the required efficiency levels even at partial loads. The COP of 2,682 (W/W*) and the performance can be monitored in three ways: on the on-board Panel Pc, on the Building Management System and thanks to our web-based remote monitoring system.
