Chillers with HFO for food industry

Geoclima’s expertise in the design of HVAC systems for food storage has been recently employed in Spain in two plants for cooling and conservation of food.

Both project use HFO-1234ze refrigerant, which is a very good solution in this kind of application as HFOs are highly efficient, which adds to its minimal warming profile with reduced indirect emissions, and has the potential to deliver significant cost savings.

UVAS DOCE – REFRIGERATION AND CONSERVATION OF GRAPE

For one of the leading European companies growing and exporting grape, Uvas Doce S.L., Geoclima has co-operated in the replacement of the cooling plant of the facility in Monforte del Cid, Alicante. In this plant the harvested grapes are subjected to “air cooling” by means of which high-pressure cold air captures and removes heat from the product, cooling it. Every hour, 10 tons of grapes are processed. For this facility Geoclima has designed with the customer Frimavi two 300 kW (85 ton) GHA units with HFO1234ze for a total power of 600 kW (170 ton) and a maximum Cooling COP of 2.4/2.6 (W/W)*. ZANEMI – REFRIGERATION AND CONSERVATION OF VEGETABLES

For the renovation of a vegetable storage facility of the Spanish company Zanemi in Villena (Alicante), Geoclima, together with the customer Frimavi, has designed and installed the new refrigeration plant. This is a process cooling installation for food preservation through a hydro-cooling process: freshly harvested vegetables enter a cooling tunnel at a temperature of about 25 °C (77 °F) and after a cooling process in which they get in contact with freezing water, vegetables come out at a temperature of 2 °C (35.6 °F). After the cooling process, vegetables are stored at a temperature of 1 °C (33.8 °F). The plant processes 10 tons of vegetables per hour. The solution provided by Geoclima consists of a 200 kW (57 ton) GHA unit with heat recovery, HFO-1234ze refrigerant and Cooling COP between 2.7 and 2.9 (W/W)*.

Circlemiser, unique design for all-round efficiency

Geoclima innovation never stops and we are now ready to present a new technological solution able to increase the efficiency of cooling system as never before.

Our R&D division has been able to improve the already high performance of Turbomiser series, creating the Circlemiser series for air cooled chillers.

The new Circlemiser series is characterized by incomparable performance and efficiency levels, with an increase in EER up to 15%, improving the high efficiency already provided by Turbomiser.

The technological innovation of Circlemiser is in the design and development of special cylindrical condensers, and the installation of cascade flooded evaporators. Learn more about this extraordinary technological innovation that will revolutionise the HVAC world.

Four Turbomiser for an innovative project at the Manchester hospital

Turbomiser technology by Geoclima was chosen for a very innovative and cutting-edge project in the UK. Four 1200 kW Turbomiser units were designed for the Manchester Proton Beam Therapy centre, a brand new five storey facility at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, one of Europe’s leading cancer treatment hospitals. The MPBT project is going to be the UK’s first NHS high-energy proton beam therapy center and will provide three treatment rooms, one research room, patient reception, consultation rooms and public space in one 5 storey building. The estimated cooling load for the building is around 3.6 MW, therefore all four 1200 kW chillers should be running in part load to achieve the duty. Turbomiser running at part load provide always the highest efficiency and effective cooling. Units are going to serve the entire building, including proton beam machines, which require constant cooling and will take up the bulk of the building load. From this point of view it is clear that maximum reliability has been a key factor in the choice of Turbomiser technology.

Turbomiser chillers are being installed and will start running in January 2018, after building work will be completed.

Maximum efficiency for pharma industry

For a major pharmaceutical industry near Rome, Geoclima designed and produced in 5 weeks one Turbomiser unit for a process cooling application that has to bring the highest efficiency: reduction in energy consumption up to 50%, low start-up current, reduced service and maintenance.

The unit is an air cooled Turbomiser chiller with three Turbocor compressors providing 1200 kW total cooling capacity and EER 3,73 and ESEER 5,7.

The new equipment is going to replace the existing obsolete plant and has to ensure reliable uninterrupted performance and react to continuous variations of cooling load.

Smart technologies for the best HVAC experience

The Geoclima R&D Department is always committed to studying and developing new solutions to improve our clients’ experience. Quality, efficiency and reliability are the foundations of our engineering and updating processes.

From hardware equipment to software technologies, every single product is developed to improve end users’ experience and to provide a comprehensive service that clients can test on their own, from chiller selection to unit control.
