High-Efficiency Chiller Installation in an Italian Confectionery Company

Background

In this case study, we will examine the installation of a high-efficiency chiller at the production facility of a major Italian confectionery company. The main goal of this project was to ensure an optimal working environment and efficient production process while reducing environmental impact and energy costs.

Project

The installed chiller is a water-cooled model with a cooling capacity of 1000 kW, featuring four screw compressors and using the R448A refrigerant. The system is designed to ensure an evaporator outlet temperature of -17 °C and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

One of the main objectives of this project was to achieve a high level of energy efficiency. The installed chiller reached Coefficient of Performance (COP) values of 6.57, positioning it among the most efficient systems on the market.

Benefits

The installation of the high-efficiency chiller brought several benefits to the confectionery company, including:

  1. Energy savings: thanks to the COP of 6.57, the chiller enables the company to significantly reduce energy costs associated with cooling. This saving translates into a reduction in operating expenses and a rapid return on investment.
  2. Improved product quality: the chiller’s ability to maintain a constant temperature of -17 °C at the evaporator ensures that confectionery products are stored and processed under ideal conditions, preserving their quality and freshness.
  3. Greater environmental sustainability: the use of the R448A refrigerant, with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP), reduces the environmental impact of the cooling system. Moreover, the high energy efficiency of the chiller contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with electricity production.
  4. Reliability and durability: the four screw compressors ensure greater reliability and a longer lifespan of the cooling system, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Conclusion

The installation of the high-efficiency chiller at the Italian confectionery company’s production facility has led to a significant reduction in energy costs while simultaneously ensuring an optimal working environment and an efficient production process. The high energy efficiency, the use of a low environmental impact refrigerant, and the reliability of the system make it an ideal solution for the company’s cooling needs, contributing to environmental sustainability and competitiveness in the confectionery market.
